Landowner Opportunities
to Participate in Wildlands and Woodlands
Massachusetts is 62% forested. More than three quarters of this forestland isdivided into numerous small parcels owned by over 46,000 families and individual landowners !
The Woodlands part of the W & W vision will happen when these forest landowners choose to (1) protect some or all of their land from development with a conservation restriction and (2) harvest wood products based on a forest management plan created by a professional forester. Local wood production will benefit our and other societies greatly by creating jobs for local people, reducing the carbon footprint of shipping wood products, and reducing destructive logging practices in other parts of the country and the world.
There is a wide range of opportunities for landowners to contribute to the W&W vision in a way that meets their personal and financial goals. Below are some landowner opportunities and contacts for local professionals that can help you contribute to the W&W vision while meeting your personal goals. Since your land is a part of a larger whole, it is important to consider the natural resources that extend beyond your property and to communicate with neighbors when making management decisions.
